Which Fishing Rod and Reel Combo Should You Choose?

Spinning combos for trout, beginners and coastal lure fishing

Choose a 1.8 m telescopic spinning combo for small streams, sheltered lake edges or banks with overhanging vegetation. A 2.1 m setup gives you extra reach for casting and working a lure from an open bank. Both lengths are available in trout bundles with spoon lures. For a child's first setup, the range includes dedicated 1.8 m kids' sets.

For casting lures from open harbour banks or coastal shorelines, choose the 3 m coastal spinning combo. It comes with a DC3000 reel, 30 lb braid and a lure set. Compare spinning combos.

Baitcaster combos for controlled lure casting

Choose a 2.1 m or 2.4 m telescopic starter set if you want line and assorted tackle included. For a multi-piece setup, the 2.1 m T800 bundle suits 7–30 g lures and includes 12 lb braid and leader. The 2.58 m bundle adds reach for open banks and shorelines, handles 10–42 g lures and includes 20 lb braid and leader.

Both multi-piece bundles come in left- and right-side reel versions. Pick the handle side that matches the hand you prefer to wind with. Compare baitcaster combos.

Surfcasting combos for beach fishing

The 3.6 m combo with a 5000 reel is easier to handle if you prefer a shorter rod for repeated casting. Choose the 4.2 m combo with an AS7000 reel when you want extra reach to keep more line above the breaking wash. Both include five 40 g lures, braid and leader.

The 4.2 m EF9000 options include a rod-and-reel combo and a separate shore fishing starter set. Choose the starter set if you also need tackle, or the rod-and-reel combo if you already have your own. Compare surfcasting combos.
