Which Baitcasting Rod Should You Choose?
1.5 m five-piece rod for tight casting spots
Choose the 1.5 m rod when you fish close to the bank or have limited room to swing the rod. Its short assembled length makes it easier to manoeuvre around overhanging branches, and the five sections pack down for transport.
2.1 m T800 rod for 7–30 g lures
The five-piece T800 rod gives you more reach than the 1.5 m model while staying manageable around wharves and estuary edges. Its fast action suits twitching softbaits and working light metal lures. It packs down to about 48 cm.
2.4 m telescopic rod for open banks
Choose the 2.4 m rod if you want extra reach and prefer a rod that collapses into itself for storage. Check its casting rating against the lures you normally use before choosing between this model and the 2.58 m rod.
2.58 m six-piece rod for 10–42 g lures
Choose the 2.58 m rod if you regularly cast lures above the 2.1 m T800's 30 g limit or need extra reach to guide a lure past weed along the bank. It packs down to about 48 cm and is rated for 8–20 lb line.
Standalone rod or baitcaster combo?
Choose a standalone rod if you already have a suitable baitcasting reel. The 2.1 m and 2.4 m telescopic starter sets include a reel, line and assorted tackle. The 2.1 m T800 and 2.58 m bundles include braid and leader, with a choice of left- or right-side reel handles.
